Terms of Service

Last updated: 9 August 2026

These terms apply to the Walkmark desktop app and walkmark.app. By using either, you agree to these terms and our Privacy Policy.

What Walkmark is today

  • Desktop app — open source software for macOS, Windows, and Linux. It records your screen, captures steps, can call AI models to write instructions, and exports guides. No Walkmark account is required.
  • walkmark.app — this website: product information, documentation, download links, and an optional email waitlist for a future hosted product.

There is no paid Walkmark service, no Walkmark login, and no cloud storage from us yet. Recording, editing, and export happen on your machine unless you send data to an AI provider you configure.

Open source license

The desktop app is released under the MIT License on GitHub. Your use of the app code is governed by that license in addition to these terms.

Your content

You own the screenshots, projects, and guides you create. They are stored on your device in the app data folder unless you export them or send them to a third-party AI service when you click Write.

You are responsible for what you record and publish: get permission before capturing other people's data or confidential information, and redact passwords or secrets before sharing a guide.

AI and third-party providers

If you use AI writing, you choose the model: local (for example Ollama) or a remote provider with your own API key. When you run Write with a remote provider, your screenshots and prompts go to that provider under their terms. We do not operate those models and are not responsible for their output, uptime, or data handling.

AI text can be wrong. Review every guide before you ship it. Walkmark is not legal, medical, financial, or compliance advice.

Website and waitlist

If you join the waitlist, we store your email to contact you about future products. That is described in our Privacy Policy. Waitlist signup does not guarantee a product, price, or launch date.

Do not abuse the site: no scraping at scale, no attempts to break our systems, no automated spam signups.

Acceptable use

Do not use Walkmark to break the law, infringe someone else's rights, or harass others. Do not use it to build malware or attack other systems.

We may block waitlist or website access if you abuse the site. The desktop app runs locally; we do not remotely disable your installed copy.

No warranty

Walkmark and walkmark.app are provided "as is". We do not promise the app or site will be error-free, available at all times, or fit for every purpose. You use them at your own risk.

Limitation of liability

To the extent allowed by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages (including lost profits or lost data) arising from your use of Walkmark or this site.

Our total liability for any claim related to the website or waitlist is limited to USD $100. These terms do not limit liability where the law does not allow it.

Changes

We may update these terms. We will post the new version here and change the date above. Continued use of the website after an update means you accept the new terms. For the desktop app, check this page when you upgrade.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Lithuania, except where mandatory consumer protection rules in your country say otherwise.
